I’ve started five companies, raised tens of millions of dollars, created hundreds of millions in value. I’ve conceived and developed products and services that have contributed something of value to the lives of tens of millions of people. I’ve even stepped into existing companies that were heading into oblivion and turned them into healthy growing enterprises. I am lucky, I’m intuitive, I am very good at seeing through the clutter and I am entirely unorthodox in my view and approach to business. And yet, despite all of of this I still don’t know what I want to do when I grow up.
I’m proud of my business accomplishments, and I am grateful that others admire and respect those aspects of my life and though I see them as significant, I do not see them as foundational achievements that are a core part of me. In this blog I intend to share a part of me that is an Untrepreneur, someone who exhibit so many of the hallmarks traits of an entrepreneur but somewhat less motivated, driven, or stimulated by success as my entrepreneurial counterparts. My primary motivation is in many ways in opposition to classic entrepreneurial values. I value fairness above winning, I value truth above being right, I value human connection above competition, and I value learning above knowing. And so this is what this blog is about.
It’s about defying conventional wisdom, going against the grain, being the odd man out. It’s meant to send a clarion call or a whispering voice to everyone and anyone who has the will to create. My hope is to build a place where a dialog can be had about not waiting for established authorities to call on our talents but to instead make work for ourselves. And so especially in these times, if you can’t find a job, my belief is that you should gather those people for whom you have respect and make one.
Andrew,
Great website — It’s full of wisdom and insight. I will keep checking in to gain more knowledge.
Thanks.
